from SAHIH MUSLIM:
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Ask me (about matters pertaining to religion)… . In the meanwhile a man came there, and sat near his knees and said: Messenger of Allah, … when would there be the hour (of Doom)? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: The one who is asked about it is no better informed than the inquirer. I, however, narrate some of its signs (and these are): when the slave-girl will give birth to her master/mistress, when the naked, barefooted would become the chiefs of the people – these are some of the signs of (Doom). (Moreover) when the shepherds of the black (camels) would exult themselves in buildings, this is one of the signs of (Doom). (Doom) is one of the five (happenings wrapped in the unseen) which no one knows but Allah.
And so, the Signs that the Last Day (Yawm al-Qiyāmah) is near are:
1. When the slave girl will give birth to her master/mistress.
According to scholars, this means that children mistreat their mothers; i.e., treat them like servants. Does it ring any bell?
In this time of social mobility, many sons and daughters of poor people become very rich.
2. When the naked, barefooted, deaf and dumb (ignorant and foolish persons) would become chiefs of their people.
Ignorant and foolish leaders? Perfect description for George W. Bush. And for Erap Estrada. And Donald Trump. And Noynoy Aquino. How about the present Philippine president?
And how about some of the senators and congressmen?
3. When the shepherds of the black camels would exult themselves in BUILDINGS.
Now this is something else. The black camel shepherds are the Arabs of the Arabian/Persian Gulf; i.e., the Saudis, the people of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the Emirates, Kuwait, etc.
Some 45 years ago (in the 1970s), there weren’t any 20-story buildings in these places.
Some 25 years ago (in the 1990s), there were already tall buildings, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Today, some of the tallest and most breath-taking buildings are in these places, esp. in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The world’s tallest building is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It opened in January 2010.
